Municipal Census 2024

Everyone Counts in Blackfalds

Count yourself in for the Blackfalds Municipal Census from May 6 -July 26, 2024

Between May 6 and 20, take a few minutes to complete the online Census and enter for a chance to win one of two gift card bouquet baskets, each valued at $500! Winners will be announced on May 22, 2024. 

From May 6 to 10, enumerators will visit residences to deliver the Secure Access Codes (SAC), which will also include a link to the Census website.
Note: when accessing the Census website, it should prompt you for your address and SAC code before asking the Census Questions. 

The 2021 Census Report puts our population count at 11,015. The 2024 Census aims to achieve the desired population growth since 2018, with the Town’s rough estimate close to 11,500.

A municipal census provides information to assist the municipality in planning for the community's needs, such as future roads, the addition and location of schools, parks, utilities, protection, fire, and other services.

  1. Enumerators will assist in collecting accurate data by visiting assigned addresses.
  2. You must be available for training on April 24, 2024
  3. You must complete the door-to-door visits between May 6 - July 26, 2024

Enumerator Requirements:

The Town of Blackfalds is seeking 10 people to fulfill the temporary duties of door-to-door.

The successful candidates will be trained by the Town of Blackfalds to conduct door-to-door census enumeration. Enumerators will drop off information to every residence in their area and follow up with those residents who do not complete their census online. 

Interested applicants must: 

  • Be available to work from May 6 – July 26, 2024 (hours required are flexible and may vary)
  • Attend 3-hour training on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM
  • Collect confidential information from all dwellings within an assigned census area 
  • Deliver all secure access codes (SAC) to dwellings between May 6 – May 10, 2024
  • Work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends, to complete their census area 
  • Return provided smart devices (tablet or phone) by August 1, 2024 

Qualifications:

  • Moderate to advanced computer/technology skills as smart devices (tablet or phone) are the primary tool used to enumerate 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be detail-oriented 
  • This position requires a significant amount of walking in various weather conditions 
  • The ability to work unsupervised 

Compensation will be provided upon completion of the enumeration period, after July 26, 2024. Census enumerators can anticipate earning an estimated average of $600 to $1,200 dependent upon their assignments and completion.

  1. Enumerators will visit all residences between May 6 and 10 to deliver the secure access codes, ensuring a unique and secure way to complete your Census!
  1. Yes, enumerators will be making door-to-door visits for those who do not complete the survey online. They will be on their way from May 21 until July 26.
  1. The 2024 Operating Budget has $30,000 identified to complete the Census.
  1. The census not only shows us our growth since 2021, but it also assists in planning for community needs including future roads, additions and locations of schools, parks, utilities, and protective and fire services. When we know how many people call Blackfalds their home, we know how much we need to increase those services.
  1. Yes, all census information is typically provided to the public a few months after the census officially ends. The public should see a final document presented in October of this year.
  1. There are three ways you can complete your census. Online at blackfalds.ca/census, in person via our enumerators, or over the phone with our Census staff at 403.885.6350.
  1. Email census@blackfalds.ca and our Census Staff will provide you with your designated SAC.
