Volunteer Firefighter Awareness Week and Emergency Preparedness Week
Volunteer Firefighter Awareness Week (May 1-6, 2017) aims to bring attention to the many volunteers that provide services throughout the Province during the week. Thursday, May 4 is International Firefighters’ Day. International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is a time where the world’s community can recognize and honour the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. It is also a day in which current and past firefighters can be thanked for their contributions: http://www.firefightersday.org/.
Blackfalds Fire Department has entered two teams to take part in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge on May 7 is hosted by the Calgary Firefighters Benevolent Society (CFBS), whose purpose is to provide assistance to firefighters and their families when they are in need. Cancer is a prevalent occupational hazard of the firefighter’s job, and the CFBS is pleased to support Wellspring Calgary through this event: http://calgarystairclimb.com/.
Emergency Preparedness Week (May 7-13, 2017) has the annual theme of Plan. Prepare. Be Aware. It is meant to help Canadians take action to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.
This year the Fire Department will be having an open house at the Fire Hall (4401 South Street) on May 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come out and meet the volunteer firefighters and learn more about Emergency Preparedness.
