Public Works Week - Josh Barnard
Every year during Public Works Week, we like to feature one of our many valuable staff members and celebrate the work that they do for the Town every single day.
This year, we would like to introduce Josh Barnard who has been with the Town for six months. In the short time he’s been with us, Josh has operated all the different equipment and enjoys the water and sewer assets.
Josh was born in Ontario and raised in Red Deer where he worked in heavy construction for 13 years, nine of which were spent with the City of Red Deer assisting in utilities. He says there was an opportunity to join Blackfalds and be a part of the small but tight-knit organization and he took it. He adds that “my colleagues and I share a common goal to bring the best underground service a municipality can offer.”
With difficult aspects in every job, Josh explained that staying informed and following Alberta Environmental and Parks guidelines/regulations is one of the more difficult parts of his position. He also mentioned that residents don’t often see what happens under the ground and the work behind maintaining it.
“Utilities are an essential part of resident’s everyday life. We follow a code to make sure everyone has safe water to enjoy carefreely.”
Josh is most proud of his AEP certificate for Water and Wastewater Systems and enjoys fishing and golf when he’s not at work.
Although Josh hasn’t been with the Town for very long, his presence in our Public Works department is valued and we appreciate everything he has done, is doing, and will continue to do for the Town and residents.
