New Playground coming to Blackfalds

posted on Mar 15 2018

After deliberation by Town Staff, Recreation, Parks and Culture Board (Rec Board) and Town Council, we are very excited to announce a new playground is coming to Valley Ridge!

Over 40 drawings were received by administration and from there Town staff had narrowed the amount down to five concepts, then sent to Rec Board to pick their favourite theme.

Rec Board members voted on the construction-themed playground by Canadian Recreation Solutions as the most popular choice.

After the vote was decided, Council approved the Rec Board's recommendation to award the Valley Ridge Playground to Canadian Recreation Solutions Construction Theme proposal.

This construction-themed playground will include a 3-story tower and the longest tube slide in the industry, a Bulldozer Kid Rider where little ones will enjoy pretending to work, a Diamond Climb which features internal ropes which provide challenging and varied climbing paths to get from deck to deck, a Jack Hammer which is a "swirly stick can entertain three energy packed kids all at once," according to Canadian Rec.

The park will also include a Playhouse which allows kids to use their imaginations with all of the different play panels to use. Finally, an Inclined Crawl Tunnel will be featured and is a "fun tunnel that helps kids to climb higher or lower."

The playground’s total cost will be $121,970.00.

The Rec Board has always played a vital role in choosing the playgrounds around Blackfalds and due to the experience of the board and the positive affirmation received from previous playgrounds built, they are confident that their decision will please all ages of the Blackfalds youth.

The new playground will be located in Vista Trail Park, in the Valley Ridge Neighbourhood, adjacent to the new soccer field which is also scheduled to be built in the Spring.
