Celebrating Public Works Week - Phil Howes

posted on May 22 2018

It’s Public Works Week! First up to recognize is our wonderful Public Works Operator, Phil Howes (AKA Red.)

Phil has been working with the Town of Blackfalds for seven years, although he’s originally from the City of Red Deer. Phil is a Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter who enjoys bike riding with his children and spending time with his family.

When asked about what his most memorable experience working with the Town was, he remembered a time when winter had ended and the Town was helping clear out the drains.

“The most memorable moment was when I thawed a storm drain and there was so much force coming out of the culvert [that] the water shot across the road.”

Phil’s favourite thing about the job is the variety of work that he gets to do in a day. He also said the most challenging aspect of the job is “trying to do a task like sweeping or snow removal when residents do not obey the no-parking signs that are put out.”

Thank you, Phil, for being with us for so long and helping whenever we need. We appreciate you!
