Celebrate Canada 150 in Blackfalds on Canada Day

posted on Jun 19 2017

Join us on Saturday, July 1, 2017, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday as we host a series of family events across the community throughout the day, including the grand opening of the Wadey Centre and the Town’s off-leash dog park – the Bark Park.

The grand opening ceremony for the Wadey Centre will commence at 10:30am at 4400 South Street (southwest corner of All-Star Park) with a ribbon cutting ceremony and presentations from representatives of the project. Following the grand opening ceremony, there will be free tours of the Wadey Centre and ice cream will be served by members of the Historical Society along with a fundraiser BBQ hosted by the Optimists Club of Blackfalds. From there we move onto the Bark Park for its grand opening with agility demonstrations, a dog park etiquette demonstration, and free treat bags in addition to the ribbon cutting.

“The Government of Canada recognizes that cultural facilities are vital to preserving our country’s legacy, and through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, we are able to provide support to cultural centres across the country. I am proud of the investment in the Town of Blackfalds, which helped to turn the Wadey Centre into a multi-purpose, historic destination that will benefit the community and tourists alike.”

  • The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada.

After the two grand openings, there will be a large selection of fun family friendly events including the Dual Ice Development Society Hockey Zone at the Multi-Plex, a party at Tayles Water Spray Park with cupcakes and prizes, a free family concert at the Blackfalds & District Agricultural Society Amphitheatre featuring Cole Malone and The Frank, and of course fireworks at All Star Park presented by the Blackfalds Pyro Crew.

Parking is very limited for the grand opening events, so BOLT Transit will be providing FREE bus service around town from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – view the BOLT schedule for the day along with the full schedule of events at
