CAO's Message - Wadey House Move

posted on Nov 2 2016

A momentous occasion took place this morning when the Wadey House moved off its foundation where it has rested for over 100 years. It was transported to its new location where it will be re-purposed into a visitor information centre, offices for the Blackfalds & District Chamber of Commerce and will represent our Community’s historical significance.

Moving a structure such as this is not an easy feat and involves many, of whom I would like to thank on behalf of myself and Council.

Thanks to our local RCMP and Municipal Peace Officers who were stationed along the route and assisted with traffic control and general public safety.

Thanks as well to both CP Rail and Fortis Electric for their assistance in the successful crossing of their respective infrastructure, and of course we must commend the professionalism of McCann Building Movers in making the task appear nearly effortless. Believe me: there is a lot more to moving a structure than simply driving it down the road!

A big thank you goes out to Scott Builders - the general contractor for this great project.  Their excellent coordination and communication was integral in making this component of the project a success.

I would also like to thank Judy Carleton of the Blackfalds & Area Historical Society for her ongoing involvement and her efforts in ensuring that the Wadey Family are invited and involved in this project as it evolves.

Finally I would like to say a big thank you to our Town staff. Each department and staff member has had or will have some involvement with this project until its completion.

If you weren’t able to witness this event in person, you can view great photographs taken by Scott Builders on Facebook.

We look forward to the continued transformation of the Wadey House.
