Blackfalds Municipal Census to be conducted in March 2021

posted on Feb 22 2021

Blackfalds, February 22, 2021 – After a three-year hiatus, a Municipal Census will be held this year! The online census starts on March 1 and door-to-door visits with official census enumerators will take place from March 15 - 31.

Residents will receive a letter with their exclusive Census PIN (Personal Identification Number) by the end of February. This unique and secure PIN is specific to Blackfalds addresses and is required to complete the census online. Residents who complete their census online by March 15 will be added to a draw for a chance to win a brand-new tablet, valued at $1,000.

Overview of Timelines:        Online Collection | March 1 to March 31

                                                Door-to-Door Enumeration | March 15 to March 31

Enumerators will visit residents between March 15 and March 30 who have not completed the census online. Authorized by the Town, enumerators are responsible for confidential collection and will be wearing a Town of Blackfalds photo identification badge along with logo-branded vests. Enumerators will be taking all COVID-19 precautions necessary to protect themselves and our residents. Social distancing, face coverings, masks, and limited interaction will allow the staff to acquire information safely and quickly.

If you are interested in becoming an enumerator, we are currently accepting applications for multiple temporary positions; please see for details.

By doing a Census, the municipality can use the information to assist in planning for the community's needs such as future roads, the addition, and location of schools, parks, utilities, protective, fire, and other services.

Please note that while there will be a Municipal Census in March, there is also a Federal Census during the month of May. Starting on May 3, you can complete your census questionnaire online on the Government of Canada's website. It is an easy, secure, and convenient option that anyone can use anywhere in Canada.
