Blackfalds Introduces Citizen Budget for 2017 Tax Year
As part of continued efforts to expand public participation in the community, the Town of Blackfalds is looking to broaden public awareness of the annual budget process through the introduction of Citizen Budget for the 2017 tax year.
This will be Blackfalds’ first year using Citizen Budget, an interactive online tool which asks residents whether the Town should spend more or less on a variety of municipal services - allowing them to see how those changes would impact their annual taxes.
“Citizen Budget will allow residents to see what goes into creating the annual Town budget, while allowing them to have their say in where their tax money should be allocated,” says Betty Quinlan, Director of Corporate Services. “Blackfalds continues to grow well above the provincial average population trend, and that means the Town must adapt to meet the changing expectations and needs of our residents.”
The online tool will be open throughout the month of September while initial budgets are being developed, and feedback received will be brought forward to Council in October for budget decision-making.
