A Special Thanks to our Community Heroes

posted on May 15 2017

Volunteer Firefighter Awareness Week recognizes the efforts and sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities are safe. The Town of Blackfalds honours their 30 dedicated firefighters by thanking them for their tremendous dedication and unwavering support in keeping Blackfalds safe.

On May 10, our Blackfalds Firefighters hosted a public Open House and BBQ at the Fire hall which was exceptionally well attended and enjoyed by all who took part.  Later that week the Blackfalds Fire Department, aided by the Lacombe Fire Department and Police and Enforcement Services from around the area, battled a blaze at the Blackfalds Estates Trailer Park that could have had a disastrous results to the area had it not been for the dedication and hard work of all involved. The Town of Blackfalds thanks all those that stepped up and did their part to bring this matter under control.

The annual Blackfalds Emergency Services Ball took place on May 13 providing a welcome break from the busy week. Numerous firefighters were presented with certificates of Achievement in addition to a 12-year service award recognizing Lieutenant Doug Carmichael. Most of Town Council were in attendance and acknowledged their deep gratitude to the members during the awards ceremony.

The community will have an opportunity to support their local firefighters during the BBQ by donation during the Family Dance at Blackfalds Days. See our events calendar for more info.
