The Town of Blackfalds is getting prepared to recognize and celebrate the contributions made by our valued volunteers. Special events, community programs, community organizations and groups as well as our Town boards and committees prosper through the endless dedication of our residents.
In past years, we have celebrated our community volunteers on a weeknight during National Volunteer Week, scheduled this year from April 7-13. As the support shown through volunteering in our community has soared in recent years the planning for Volunteer Appreciation has reached a pivotal place. For 2019; in order to ensure all our volunteers, young and old, are appreciated, acknowledged and recognized; our Town scheduled volunteer recognition event has been divided into 2 distinct events. The seating capacity of our Community Centre was nearly reached in 2018, as the numbers of residents being nominated for recognition awards were larger than ever before. In order to accommodate all the wonderful volunteers in our community it has been decided to celebrate in 2 separate events.
Our Volunteer Appreciation Event is scheduled to take place on the evening of April 11; awards presented will include the:
Carol Simpson Volunteer of the Year Award
New Outstanding Group Award (adult category)
New Gloria House Mentor Award
During our Youth Recognition Night taking place during National Youth Week, annually recognized from May 1 through 7, on the evening of May 2; awards presented will include the:
Dylan Stork Youth Ambassador Award
Leaders of Tomorrow Awards (elementary, junior high and senior high categories)
The new Outstanding Group Award (youth category)
Please see the invitations above for both of these special events and we hope you’ll be able to attend as we acknowledge and celebrate your contributions to the Town of Blackfalds.
We had a small glimpse of Fall but it seems that winter has arrived! Winter is the best time to start thinking about helping those in need.
Blackfalds FCSS is currently recruiting for volunteers to support our seniors this winter season with their snow shoveling.
The Snow Angel Program is a volunteer service by people who are able to commit to remove snow from a Blackfalds resident’s driveway and/or walkway who may be impeded or incapable to do so throughout the winter season.
“Adopting” a drive/walkway is a fun and healthy way for all ages to enjoy the outdoors while contributing to improving the quality of life of someone in need.
