Welcome to the Mayor’s Minute: The Blog

Over the past two years, many in our community have been saddened by the serious decline in newspaper circulation in general including how this trend has affected our local papers.   This has happened of course because of the proliferation of online methods of communication.    Personally, I miss the newspaper and the ability to sit down with a cup of coffee and see all the things that are happening in the neighborhood, and country.   While there is no shortage of ways to find out the headlines of what is happening, especially the high-interest items, the more local topics are being left in the dust.   The editorial, letters to the editor, and simple home news stories, not to mention the comic section are now difficult to contribute to and find.   This has resulted in a reduction of opportunities for Councillors to express themselves in the Councillor’s Corner and Mayor’s minute.    In this blog, which I hope will soon be followed by the Councillor Corner blog, I intend to talk about Council-related activities and issues, and I will also try to have a lot more fun doing so by relating to you some of the more interesting aspects of our Council life as seen by myself.   I will only be talking about things that Council has agreed to, and how the decisions may affect our everyday life.

One of the fun aspects of the blog is that readers have the opportunity to provide feedback, ask questions, or ask for topics that you feel may be interesting to yourself and the public.  Please take this opportunity and I will be sure to reply.

This month is Family Violence Awareness Month. Purple lights have been put up around our Town to recognize the need for action and understanding how great an impact the economy and many other factors have on families as well as how our community needs to find ways to work together to recognize and support each other.

Have a great day.

Richard Poole
