Mayors June Minute
Good June to you:
Now that the province is starting to reopen it is time for our community to look forward to a summer of hope and success.
I was thrilled that so many were able to enjoy our Town drive-in movie and that those attending contributed generously to our food bank. It is definitely time to start having some fun.
The Town at the end of May reopened their Playgrounds, the skateboard and finally our Bike skills park. It was amazing to see our youth enjoying themselves once again and we all recognize how hard it has been for them. I would like to thank one young person who asked back in April the simple respectful question “Can we open the skateboard park”? This same person repeated that simple request in May asking: can it open with Stage 1”? All of Council and staff are excited that this happened.
Our upcoming summer schedule is being developed in adherence with the guidelines announced on Tuesday for the Launch of Stage 2. While some exciting events like our Superhero Triathlon has been cancelled and we are saddened that Blackfalds days will not be going ahead, we understand and respect the work of our Provincial Medical officer and would also like to thank our amazing town staff who have worked so hard to keep our community safe and look forward to expanded opportunities.
I would also like to remind everyone that our local businesses are open throughout the Town. The Economic Development and Tourism Committee is supporting our local business community and has launched a novel initiative "the Business Bingo Game." Everyone can and should join in this fun way of supporting our community. For more information and bingo cards go to https://www.blackfalds.com/business
All of us are looking forward to this next stage of opening. Over the next week, your Town staff will be studying the new stage 2 relaunch guidelines and will soon be announcing the activities that can restart in a manner that meets the needs of our community. There will be challenges, but our staff respect that our citizens have always considered the overall safety of our citizens the priority.
Please continue to keep yourself, your loved ones, and the community safe. Let's work together to restart our Town and our Lives.
