Mayors end of year minute
posted on Jan 9 2020
Hello Blackfalds and welcome to 2020! I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays with the good cheer only family and friends can bring. I wish you success and happiness for the upcoming year.
Like you, our Town staff and community members are working hard to make the upcoming decade a time of growth and prosperity.
This Spring, we will be embarking on some major construction projects to expand the arena with an additional ice surface, build a new Library and finish a much-needed road alignment from Highway 2A to Womacks Road. All these projects were identified in several needs assessments over the past ten years as major necessities within our community. The Dual Ice Development Society (DIDS) has been actively fundraising and promoting the twinning of the arena for the last two years and both the Recreation, Culture and Parks and the Library Boards have been integral in the architectural plans and are very excited about their future roles in helping to find ways to maximize the enormous economic potential for the arena and the community. Furthermore, the need for a safer railway crossing was identified many years ago and I am very excited that the Gregg Street realignment will provide safe and easy access through our Town.
Blackfalds continues to be a leader in taking actions that will encourage investment and demonstrate that we are a town that welcomes new members to our community. Our facilities, parks and playgrounds are among the best in Alberta and we continue to add and improve these each year.
In Blackfalds, we value our citizens and businesses and together we are working hard to be the Town that is the Future.
