Boards & Committees

Every October, or as vacancies become available, Council appoints residents to boards and committees. Each board and committee has their own bylaw or terms of reference that outlines the number of community volunteers and term lengths. 

The deadline to apply for appointment at the Annual Organizational Meeting, October 26, 2021, is September 10, 2021.

Economic Development & Tourism Advisory Committee

(minimum of 8 members at large, currently consists of 9)

NEW Women & Minority Groups in Politics (WMP) Steering Committee

The purpose of the WMP Steering Committee is to increase interest in local government and to recommend and assist in the establishment of objectives to encourage women and persons in minority groups to become more involved and educated with municipal politics.

Economic Development & Tourism Advisory Committee

Meets on the first or second Monday of January, March, May, September, and November at 7:00 pm

This advisory committee provides assistance with and recommendations on goals and strategies of the Economic Development Business Plan and related initiatives to the Economic Development Officer and Administration.

Family & Community Support Services Board

Meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm

Advisory Board members contribute to ongoing improvements to the social well being of individuals, families and community through preventative social programming by providing recommendations to Council and Town Administration on programs and services to enrich and strengthen quality of life.

Municipal Library Board

Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm

The Library Board administers the provision of library services to all residents of Blackfalds and surrounding areas. The Board is also responsible for the efficient operation of the library.

Municipal Planning Commission

Meets on an as needed basis (to a maximum of twice per month in the evening)

Commission members advise and assist Council and Town Administration and review and make decisions on applications for development permits, in accordance with related municipal planning documents such as the Land Use By-Law and the Municipal Development Plan.

Policing Committee

Meets on a quarterly basis

Committee members serve as a liaison between Town Council, the RCMP, Municipal Enforcement and Blackfalds' citizens to foster responsible community action to maintain a safe and secure community.

Council Remuneration Review Committee

Next committee will be required in the first quarter of 2021.

The 3 members of this committee serve to determine appropriate salary rates, per diem rates and expenses for the Mayor and Councillors.
