Taxes
The 2010 Combined Assessment and Tax Notices have been mailed and are due June 30, 2010. Any unpaid balance will be subject to a penalty of 12% on July1, 2010. If you did not receive your tax notice, please contact the Municipal Office at 403-885-4677 and another copy will be issued to you. Please note: If you have purchased a new home which began construction after January 1 of the current year, you may be subject to a re-assessment and a supplementary assessment.
Annual Assessment and Tax notices are sent to property owners each May and are due June 30 every year unless you have signed up for the Town of Blackfalds Tax Installment Payment Plan (see below for more info.)
Late Penalties are applied as follows :
o 12% penalty applied July 1 on outstanding current taxes
o 6% penalty applied September 1 on outstanding current taxes
o 18% penalty applied January 1 on full outstanding tax account balance
A great way to pay your taxes is to join the Town
of Blackfalds Tax Installment Payment Plan (T.I.P.P.) because you have the full year to pay for your taxes:
o Attach a void check or account authorization form from you financial institution
o We will then divide your yearly taxes by the remaining months of the year and equal monthly payments will come directly out of your bank account on the last business day of every month.
(Note: The best time to sign up for this service is in January; as your payments will be divided by 12).

SPECIAL ATTENTION : ROMAN CATHOLIC PROPERTY OWNERS
In October 2001, a Ministerial Order established Blackfalds Roman Catholic Separte School District No. 583. If you wish to be recorded as a propterty owner whose property is assessable for the purpose of the separate school district, you must give written notice to the Town stating that you are a Roman Catholic. In order to ensure that property taxes are directed correctly, it is important that all property owners are designated on the School Support Notice and that the percentage of ownership adds up to 100%.
The property will be deemed as assessable for the purpose of the Public School District unless a School Support declaration is received stating otherwise. When the Town receives the completed School Support Notice, no change will be made to the direction of school taxes until January 1, of the following year. As in the past, the taxes on such property will be directed to the Alberta School Foundation Fund and distributed on an equal amount per student to public and separte school boards in Alberta.
All new and future homeowners in the Town of Blackfalds will be given acess to the School Support Declaration and property owners may at any time file a new School Support Declaration, or change an existing one. Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the Town Office at (403) 885-4677 or call Red Deer Catholic Regional Division No. 39 at (403) 343-1055.
